To create awareness about rising incidents of cyber crime among general public, the Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad, with the help of Tollywood actors, has produced a series of five short-films.

The short-films will be screened in cinema halls across the city and will be widely circulated in social media to create awareness among the netizens, as a preventive measure for cyber crime. The five videos are based on social media offences, job and visa frauds, matrimonial frauds, economic offence, including multi-level marketing frauds and bank OTP frauds.

The short films were formally released by Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V.V. Srinivasa Rao at Prasad Film Labs here, on Monday.

Noted film director S.S. Ramamouli, actor Jr. NTR, Vijay Devarakonda, Nikhil Siddharth and others conveyed public message to create awareness on cyber crimes in the videos.

Addressing the media after releasing the short-films, Mr. Rao said that operating in digital platforms is like bathing in the open, public have to be very careful while sharing their data on e-platforms.

“We should never share our personal data with any unknown person. Very often people share their bank details and even OTP of the transactions with an unknown person on phone, which finally results in the monetary loss,” he said. He said that police may try to protect the public on digital platforms, but they should first protect themselves.

The Commissioner said that every year at least 300 to 350 cases of cyber crime are registered with CCS Hyderabad and they nab at least 250 persons involved in the fraud and have recovered at least ₹3 crore.

Further, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DD) Avinash Mohanty said that cyber world is a new arena for crime and people have to be very careful while they are operating on digital platforms.

He requested the Telugu film industry to screen the short-films prior to every show and during intermission and help the police department create awareness among public to reduce the cyber crimes.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) Swathi Lakra, Tollywood film producer ‘Dil’ Raju and other senior police officials were present during the release.
