Not only common man, but Mumbai police have also become victims of online frauds. Several cops from the city have had incidents of money withdrawn from their bank accounts for the past few months. Such policemen in the city have approached senior officials and complained about it. The senior officers of the Mumbai police will be taking up the issue soon with the Axis Bank, which operates the salary accounts of policemen in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the bank, after coming to know about the issue has started returning the money to policemen from its own accounts. For the past two to three months, several police constables of the Mumbai police and officials have experienced that as soon as the salary is credited to their accounts, some amount of money gets debited. Most of them realised that it is a fraud only when they visited the bank. They gave an application to the bank as well as their seniors. Prima facie, it seems the amount has been withdrawn from Ghaziabad and Noida.

A constable attached with the Cuffe Parade police told her seniors that around Rs 10,000 was withdrawn from her account, a day after her salary was credited. “I got a message saying Rs 10,000 has been debited from my account as it was withdrawn from an ATM in Ghaziabad,” said the constable to her seniors in her written application. Meanwhile, two constables from Matunga police and DB Marg police lost Rs 22,000 and Rs 25,000. The constables have also written to their seniors and the matter is also being investigated on a parallel basis by the Cyber Police Station of Mumbai Police.

Some in the police department say that the number of people cheated is as high as 17. However, no confirmation could be given by the police on it. “Most of the policemen have approached the bank directly and have not written to us,” said Mumbai Police Spokesperson Deepak Devraj. This can be one reason that the Mumbai police are yet to register an offence in the matter. “The matter is being investigated. Axis Bank has been proudly serving the Maharashtra Police Force since 2003. We are committed to providing them with excellent services as always and protecting the interests of our esteemed customers,” said a spokesperson from Axis bank.
