A 19-year old who launched a cyber attack on 911 operating systems in Maricopa County last year was sentenced to three years probation on Tuesday, authorities said.

Meetkumar Desai was arrested in October 2016 after he created a bug that caused more than 100 hang-up 911 calls within minutes.

Desai pleaded guilty to one count of computer tampering, Maricopa County Superior Court spokesman Bryan Bouchard said.

Authorities will be able to monitor Desai’s computer during his three years of probation, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

Desai told investigators his intent was to make a non-harmful, yet annoying bug that was meant to be funny, according to officials.

The 300 hang-up calls over two days went to emergency call centers in Avondale, Chandler, Surprise and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

The malware application was enough to almost shut down 911 services across Maricopa County, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
