I would recommend you to use jabber and not do stupid mistakes by using skype and other insecure chat systems. Skype might be a good idea for family and friends connecting together but I think a forum like this needs to advance up a bit and move away from it.
So lets replace skype with jabber! let me show you how to set it up its very simple and easy.
How to setup jabber:
1) Download pidgin: https://www.pidgin.im/download/
2) Download the OTR plugin for pidgin this will encrypt the messages when using jabber. https://otr.cypherpunks.ca/binaries/wind….0.0-1.exe
3) Now go here http://jabber.hot-chilli.net/account/create/ or http://xjabber.org/ and make a account. Make sure you remember the username and domain and password you picked you will need it later on/
4) Now open up pidgin now at the tool bar at the top
Click Accounts > Manage Accounts > Add
Then a box should pop up this is where you put in your jabber information. You need to put the protocol as XMPP, the username is the one you picked when you signup on http://jabber.hot-chilli.net/account/create/ same for the domain its the one that you ticked when signup on the jabber site. Password is also the one that you picked when you signup on the jabber site. The recoruce box nothing needs to be in there and the password is the one you typed when you singup for the jabber site. Now click remember password. Ignore the Local alias and click ADD button.

5) Now to add the OTR plugin after you downloaded and set it up you will need to add it to pidgin to do this you will need to go to Tools > Plugins > Then tick off the record messaging.

Now you can add your buddy’s by there jabber email by going to Buddies > Add buddies then type the buddies XMPP/Jabber email.
You jabber email will also be shown in the accounts section. Thats the email you share with your buddies to add you.
