School and college students, as well as teachers in the city, will receive training in cyber security between November 13 and 25. The training will be imparted to about 1,000 teachers and more than 20,000 students as a part of the #WeFightCC initiative of the Pune police.
The training programme aims to create awareness about the increasing number of cyber crimes, specifically crimes that target students and the general public. Before the training, a one-day conference on the topic ‘Let’s Make Our Future Digitally Safe’ will be organised on November 11 between 10 am and 4 pm. Understanding cyber crime, cyber security, effective and secure use of social media, dealing with internet addiction etc, will be some of the topics covered in the conference.
“The conference will be followed by a hands-on training programme for the participants. This training would equip the participants to further train students in their institutes. The conference and training programme is free of cost and would be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis due to limited availability of seats. Schools must nominate IT-savvy representatives to participate in this initiative and take it forward,” said Sudhir Hiremath, the deputy commissioner of police.
In order to spread awareness beyond this target group, various online and offline contents (for teachers and students) are also being developed. “The schools with maximum participation would be awarded special prize by the Pune police. Students and teachers can participate by visiting wefightcc.com,” said Hiremath.
To nominate a representative, an educational institute must fill up the nomination form that is available online at wefightcc.com. The last date of online submission of nomination forms is November 7. Once the final list of registered participants is out, the conference venue, along with the detailed agenda, would be shared with the registered members via email and through SMS, said the official notification.
